I talk to a lot of hunters throughout the U.S. and other countries as well. While talking to them it is interesting that even some of the best hunters I know still hold a firm belief of some common myths. …Read_More;»»»»
Since Ebay went PC you can’t even buy sabots on their auction site anymore. This has made it more difficult for people to get access to a variety of hunting rifles and ammunition. You have to either stick with what’s available at your local sporting goods, or you need to order through them at high prices.
Well, not really. …Read_More;»»»»

So, when is the best time to do some scouting? Well the simple answer to that is whenever you get a chance.
I had done just about all I could think of trying to get a certain big buck that was hanging out in an area that I hunt. I had a monster buck lurking around my property and knew I could lure him in, but nothing I did seemed to work. Then I got a hold of this book: “Whitetail!: North America’s Top Deer Hunters Share Their Strategies and Secrets” This book showed me exactly what I was doing wrong. When I followed the tips and secrets in this book about scouting techniques, that’s all it took. By next summer that Big Buck was hanging on my wall. I recommend this book to anyone trying to bring in that monster buck they seem to can’t get.
However, I do feel that I need to add something to all of the chapters in all of the hunting books about scouting. It’s when. …Read_More;»»»»

I was trying to decide whether to take my bow out, or do a little turkey hunting this week and it reminded me of a good story. You know how I like to tell a good story….
3-4 years ago or so I was out during the last day of black powder season. This day also happened to fall on the second day of the fall turkey season in Osage county. I was watching a trail that opened up into a clearing that had a pond. Now I was sitting on the ground leaning against a tree so I had to be pretty still. So, when I saw something out of the corner of my eye, I very slowly started to turn my head. When I looked over in that direction there wasn’t anything there so I figured it might have just been a squirrel running around or something. Have you ever noticed how many squirrels there are in the woods when you aren’t squirrel hunting? Anyways, I decided to watch that area for a few minutes to see what the movement was. Then there it was again. Something popped up over the hill but I wasn’t quite sure what it was at the time. Then it happened again and I clearly saw it was the head of a turkey. …Read_More;»»»»
Well archery season is in full swing and muzzle loading season just ended yesterday. I haven’t been out with my bow yet this year. I prefer to wait until it gets colder. I did however get a doe last week with my black powder. This made me think of a story I want to share about cover scents. …Read_More;»»»»
I have lived in other states before. I’m originally from Wisconsin, but I’ve also lived in Virginia, Texas, and Louisiana. Every time I have moved in the past I wondered what that would do to my favorite pastime. What would the hunting be like? Are there plenty of paces to hunt? How about fishing? Will there be accessible lakes? I know I won’t have the hunting experiences that I did when I was younger living in WI. I also know that I can’t just jump in my truck and go get a bunch of blues like I did in VA. I also know I’ll probably never catch another 75 lb catfish like I did in LA. …Read_More;»»»»
