Have you ever wanted to just reach into your tackle box and pull out some live bait anytime or anywhere? Well, Lucky Craft fishing lures has made it possible. Lucky Craft has developed a technique where they can use real fish skin on their fishing lures to make them more lifelike.
Lucky Craft is a fishing lure company that has been known for their lifelike lures. But they are always on the lookout for ways to greatly improve their product. They have tried using real skin on their lures in the past but have always failed. Apparently they figured out the process one day while at a sushi bar.
After their first trials they cam up with the table rock shad. (pictured below) Once they realized the success of this lure during initial tests they developed some more. The lifelike look of the skin is incredible.

They started with successfully using eel skin. Then they were successful using the same process using squid, black sea bream, halfbeak and cod to make a large variety of styles and colors.
The process involves skinning the fish and stretching it out over the lure. They then coat the lure with shellac. Some original tests show that when the shellac gets scratched after use it has an added benefit of ejecting a scent that makes the fish go crazy over it.

My first impression of this lure when I first saw it was that is was a very realistic paint job. Then when I looked at it closer I was amazed how real this lure looked. The skin looks so natural on these lures.
Since these lures are brand new on the market I haven’t been able to test it in all conditions of weather and water. However, for the few tests that I have done on it showed that it outperformed every other lure I have in my tackle box. I can’t wait to start using these on my favorite bass lakes. I predict I’ll have to make some room on the wall for a new trophy.
Although Lucky Craft is not new lure manufacturing, and I’m sure you probably have a couple of their products, the real skin lures haven’t hit the market full force yet. Currently you can only find them in the larger markets such as Cabela’s and Bass Pro Shops
I recommend that you pick up at least one of these quickly. This is going to be a really hot item this year and they may be hard to find once the word gets out.
Happy Fishing!
