We just went through a major power outage here at our house in Tulsa, Oklahoma. We were fortunate enough to have a good generator to help us out. This prompted me to talk to others in the area to see what they thought was the best generator to have in such a situation.
Here is my list of the best generators:
1. 13 HP Honda OHV 6000 Watts Generator. We have a Honda Generator. This generator was used during our 9 day power outage without any failures at all. this is a higher end generator. But what you may be paying extra in price, you will definately be saving in reliability.
2. Briggs & Stratton Power Products 5,550-Watt Portable Generator #30241 This generator pushes 5,550 watts at an affordable price.
3. PowerMax 8500 Watt Gas Generator. This generator pushes a whopping 8500 watts but still runs quiet, and it’s still affordable.
There you have it. Based from all of the conversations I have had with everyone around here, those are the top 3 generators being used during this major outage that we have been going through here.
Now, you don’t have to go out and pay extra money for a Honda Generator, but there are some things that you should keep in mind regardless what generator you do purchase. First of all, get on that can handle at least 5000 watts. This way you can run your a couple of electric heaters, some lights, and still be able to keep up with what’s going on by watching your TV. If you choose to go with something smaller, keep in mind that the smallest heaters will need at least 2000 watts which leaves nothing else for any other electrical devices.
